The volunteers at Dream Centre have been really busy lately, for instance with the following things.

Extension physiotherapy-ward Dream Centre

Money and the efforts of (former) volunteers were necessary to extend the physiotherapy-ward of the Dream Centre. The physiotherapy ward was completely readjusted: a wall was removed, the toilets were especially adapted, and a special kitchen was built.  The Dream Centre was also able to buy new training equipment. This way, the patients can train regularly, to keep their muscles flexible. Training the muscles also gives a patient energy, which is a very positive factor in the healing process.

Pyjamas and a lifting course for the Dream Centre

Thanks to the sponsor money and the efforts of a couple of volunteers, the Dream Centre will soon have 500 new pyjamas and 100 new bath robes. The pyjamas they now use for the patients at the hospital are old and should be replaced. That’s why Hermien, Roos, Anneke, Manuela and Chantal decided to put their sponsor money together and ask a local tailor to make new ones for the hospital. Especially Lies has been very busy with this project, and spent her sponsormoney on the pyjamas.

Lies says: by getting the pyjamas made at a local tailor, the local people also benefit from it!”   If you want to see some pictures of the pyjamas, you can look on the weblog of Lies.

Lifting courses for the Dream Centre

Volunteers of the Dream Centre thought that it was about time for the hospital staff to take some extra lifting courses. Using the information former volunteers wrote down, Lies Vlaanderen and Hermien Roddenhof started to implement this course.  Hermien says: to refresh our memories, we first went through the course information ourselves, before teaching the hospital staff. Lies’ enthusiasm was contagious and soon everyone was participating enthusiastically. We even found a patient who was willing to let the staff lift her out of bed over and over again. She said: “it is very important that they know how to do this, so that it’s less painful for me”.
