Hi everybody,
Just wanted to keep you updated what is happening at Liebenhaus as your new coordinator in Port Elizabeth!
Since Ellen left as the director, some things have changed; we lost somebody with lots of passion and love for the boys, but she is still part of the management committee and is still closely involved with Liebenhaus.
Wilma, the social worker is the new responsible person and with the help of a new committee they have big plans for Liebenhaus and will continue to approve and upgrade the home and the lives of these boys.. The volunteers at Liebenhaus have fixed up the May Holland Hall which is used by the women's co-op, the soupkitchen, for church services and other community activities and looks like new. The floors are being sanded, everything is painted and the ceiling has drapings, which gives it a far better appearance and feel then before. Also a start with the vegetable garden has been made and is waiting for more people with green fingers.
The following year the big tasks lies ahead for Liebenhaus to become independent and grow to offer more boys the opportunity to grow up in an loving and caring environment. Not always easy as all of the boys have their survival skills and some can be rough sometimes, but all have beneath that shield the will to grow and focus on positive things in life. Hopefully Liebenhaus can offer placement for up to 50 boys in the next 2 years for which the building will have to be upgraded and expanded.
It is great to see how volunteers have a part in changing things in their lives and every month they are looking forward to the new volunteers!
Thanks to every one who thinks of them!
