Situation South Africa

Dear volunteer,

As you have no doubt heard, South Africa is dealing with an outburst of violence against immigrants, especially Zimbabweans and other Africans living and working in the country. Some volunteers have contacted us with their worries about the situation.

Be More is keeping a close watch on the situation, both in South Africa and from the UK.  No advice discouraging travel to South Africa has been issued by The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, neither has a warning related to the current situation. The violence does not seem to be directed at travellers and volunteers from Europe. At this point we feel there is no need to worry.

We do advise you to keep a close watch on the news, and to seek local advice when going out, travelling, etc - as always. If the situation changes we'll contact you right away. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us!

Beste vrijwilliger,

Zoals je ongetwijfeld gehoord of gelezen hebt, is Zuid-Afrika in de ban van geweld tegen buitenlanders, met name Zimbabwanen en andere Afrikanen die in Zuid-Afrika wonen. Sommige vrijwilligers hebben contact met ons opgenomen omdat ze zich zorgen maken over de situatie.

Be More houdt de situatie nauw in de gaten, zowel in Zuid-Afrika als in Nederland en Engeland. Tot op heden is er geen negatief reisadvies afgegeven, of een waarschuwing omtrent de huidige situatie. Het geweld lijkt op dit moment niet gericht tegen reizigers of vrijwilligers uit Europa. Wat ons betreft is er op dit moment daarom geen reden om je zorgen te maken.

We adviseren je wel om het nieuws in de gaten te houden, en advies van locals in te winnen als je uitgaat, gaat reizen, etc - zoals altijd. Als de situatie verandert nemen we direct contact op. En mocht je nog vragen hebben, dan horen we het graag!
