enHow little steps make a huge difference!

screen picture

It all starts with little steps they say, but at Ithemba the results are big. Some of the children have been sitting in wheelchairs for most of their lives or have been standing in a corner while the rest plays. With little steps and ball games done by the volunteers slow progress is noticable.

One child now plays with other children, something he never did before. Another child is slowly learing to stand on feet that have grown in the wrong direction. With the help of two dutch physiotherapy students who each come for 1 morning a week, excersises help to gain strength and to improve. The big thing needed are splints so the feet and hands that grow scew can maybe grow right again and maybe, maybe one of them can get out of that wheelchair for only a minute.

These are the things that show how important the volunteers are at Ithemba and that with personal attention and practise the kids grow and improve their lives!
