enFinancial feedback July

Dear all,

As you can read on our website, we report on what's been done at each of our partner projects financially on a monthly basis.

So here it goes!

In July for the Dream Centre funds have been spent on:

- Diversional therapy programmes
Funds have been used for diversional therapy programmes with the patients, such as bingo, artwork, beadwork, movie night, etc.
These activities enhance the patient's mental and physical capacity through interaction in games and social activity. They address the need for mental and physical stimulation, hand - eye coordination as well as ensuring that patients get out of bed, thus limiting bed sores.
The weekly activities are attended by approximitely thirty patients, both those on the arv programme and those preparing for discharge.
This is a project that has grown steadily and has the interest of the majority of patients. They are pleased to get the opportunity to learn skills (beadwork) that can be used in the community, thus ensuring that income generating work is done to supplement income.

- Pajama / gown project
Funds have been used to pay for the pajama / gown project, the purchasing of 500 pajamas and 120 gowns. These have enabled the Dream Centre to provide pajamas and gowns to all patients. This is especially helpful when patients are admitted without appropriate clothes or need good, clean clothes to go to the various hospitals etc. They also ensure that patients are kept warm. The patients are extremely happy, look smart and feel warm!

Any input you might have regarding these reports is more than welcome.

Kind regards,

Jetske

Hi Jetske,
it seems to me, as a ex TDC volunteer, one of the initiators of the pyama and gown project just one year ago, this projecct is already finisht some months ago. I just wonder wat cost has been made now.
Warm regards,
Hermien.
In SA now, at Umthombo.

Hi Jetske,

What about the new warm-water kettels. Are they already in TDC and are they in use ?
We supported this project in march and april with a lot of money.

With kind regards,

Patty Balm

Hi Hermien,

I understand your confusion. Since the delivery of the pajamas and gowns was in batches, so was the payment. I will look up the details of this one when I'm back in the office.
Keep up your good work at Umthombo, and please say hello to the staff (Slindile, Eugene, Biza and all the others!) and children (from Nonkululeko), I miss them all. I read all your blog entries and feel good knowing you are there!

@Patty, thank you for your question. I will try to find out more about the kettles when I'm back in the office. I'll get back at this one!

Sala kahle,
Jetske

Hi Hermien & Patty,

Trying to answer your questions: the pyamas are coming in batch by batch, and every batch is paid for as it comes. DC let us know that last month another batch arrived and has been paid for, that's why it's in this message.

As to the hot water kettles, yes they have been ordered and have arrived (from China I think, it took a long time to get into the country), and will be installed soon. The expectation is that this project will be finished by the end of September (installation takes quite a while).

Hope this answers your questions; if not, let us know!

Hi,

I'm a volunteer at DC now and read your comment about the hotwater kettles. Each day the water is getting warmer. They work hard to finish it. The patients are very happy ( and we also) , because some of them where taking a shower at 4 in the morning because it was to cold during the day. I will put some pictures on my weblog of the people working on the hot watersystem.
