Taxi strikes

Since a few months the taxi strikes are the reason that Ithemba is frequently closed for a day. Last week Ithemba was even closed for four days because of the taxi strikes! The strikes are getting more and more violent. 

Every morning there are driving two busses to pick up the Ithembachildren at their houses in the townships. During the taxi strikes it's unsafe to drive in the townships of Port Elizabeth and that's the reason why Ithemba is closed when the taxi drivers are striking: the children can't be picked up. The taxi drivers attack cars with more than two passengers. 
Note: outside the townships it's safe for the volunteers during the strikes!!

The taxi drivers are striking beacause of the worldcup 2010. During the worldcup the government will arrange a lot of busses, while the taxi drivers want to have these extra incomes.

It's a big pity that the children have to miss a lot of days at Ithemba! It's an important place for these disabled children where they are respected. Besides, the children are getting a healthy breakfast and lunch at Ithemba, which they are missing at these days.
