enSewing lessons older girls

screen picture

Hi everyone!

Henny, one of this months volunteers at Agape, started some sewing lessons for the older girls. She invested in a secondhand sewing machine so that the girls can learn some basics. Together with these girls, Henny bought a few patterns and fabrics to get started with. At the end of the month there will be a fashionshow where the girls can show their creations!

Because of the succes of the project, Pamela is now considering finding a (permanent) teacher for when Henny leaves Agape. This way, the girls can make more clothing and make a progress in their sewing skills!
Some pictures of the girls working on their outfits can be found below,

Hi, what a great idea. When I first read your post I wrote to a company that makes sewing patterns to ask if they would donate some for the girls. They have agreed! I am coming out in September so if they do not wish to post them to the volunteer house I will bring them with me.
Big thanks to Peter from Butterick for the donation.
Keep up with the sewing and maybe we can have a fashion show.
See you soon
Carol

Hello all,

we, Renee and Henny, are organizing a sponsor run for the sewing lessons.
The run will be monday 29 of june. Last week we had an information day for the schoolchildren so they know the goal they are running for.
The children were very enthusiastic, it was very nice to do.
We hope to collect enough money for the lessons, fabrics, patterns and maybe an other sewing machine.
We will keep you up to date.

Hi Henny what a good idea to get the children involved, I am sure they will all do well.
I have received a donation of patterns and I will be sending some in the post to you soon. They are a mixture of dresses, tops and skirts for all ages and are quite easy to follow so I am sure they will be useful.
I also have 2 boxes of thread which I will bring out with me in September.
Good luck with the run
Carol

Hi
Carol took all the patterns out with her in September as promised. We didn't see the sewing machine and understand that the Saturday sewing lessons were sometimes poorly attended. Is there any news about the clothes the girls were going to make from the patterns they chose?
